The most historically important wine tasting that cemented the prestige of American wines around the world, occurred in Paris in 1976. Wine merchant Steven Spurrier presented venerated French wine critics glasses of American Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. He asked them to taste blind against similar prestigious French Burgundy and Bordeaux wines.
French wine critics rated the American wines higher than the best wines France had to offer. To commemorate this historic event, let us take you to some of the wineries that produced these award-winning wines.
